The Herald provides local schools with newspapers for use in the classroom. In addition to the newspapers the NIE coordinator will provide optional curriculum to supplement classroom activities to help use the paper in the classroom more effectively.

Newspapers are an important tool in helping educators teach practical life applications in content areas such as; math, reading, language arts, science, technology, geography, history and government classes.

The Kid Scoop Weekly Writing Corner receives many letters each week. Here are some guidelines to give your students a better chance of being published:

1) Keep letters to 25-50 words.
2) Make sure entries are legible.
3) Student’s name, grade, school and teacher should be on each entry.
4) Screen for appropriateness. We try to avoid potentially embarrassing entries, but sometimes it’s not obvious.
***Teachers should make a note on those entries that are exceptional for a particular student that may not stand out among the many other letters we receive.
