Arts Council awarded grant for new center

The Arts Council of Snohomish County has received a $400,000 challenge grant from the Kresge Foundation for the construction of the Arts Council’s Visual Arts Education Center in downtown Everett. The $400,000 challenge grant was designed to help the Council to not only achieve its fundraising goals, but to also expand and diversify its membership by engaging the community.
To meet the Kresge challenge, the Arts Council will need to raise $1.7 million in new gifts and pledges for the Visual Arts Education Center capital campaign by Feb. 1, 2010. The campaign, which began in 2006, has raised more than $2.7 million towards its $6 million goal, and was recently recommended for $1 million in Washington State Building for the Arts funding.
The Arts Council is partnering with Artspace Projects, Inc. to build its new 80,000-square-foot facility, located at 2919 Hoyt Avenue. It will provide a new home for Arts Council programs, as well as affordable housing for working artists and their families through Artspace.
For the Arts Council’s portion of the project, they will design and build-out a new Visual Arts Education Center for art exhibits, classes & workshops, and art production. For more information, visit www.artscouncilofsnoco.org.
