Woman struck by car along Lynnwood street

LYNNWOOD – A woman was taken to a Seattle hospital with life-threatening injuries this morning after being struck by a car when she apparently stepped off the sidewalk into the road.

Detectives investigated the 7:42 a.m. crash in the 3200 block of 148th Street SW, Snohomish County sheriff’s Lt. Jeff Brand said.

The Lynnwood woman, 43, was walking on the sidewalk when she stepped into the road and was hit, he said.

She was taken to Harborview Medical Center, the region’s trauma center, where she was in critical condition.

The driver, an Everett man, cooperated with detectives, Brand said.

The road was closed for about two hours as detectives collected evidence.

Winter months, October through February, are the most dangerous for pedestrian accidents, traffic records show.

Edmonds School District is at serious risk.
There was a time when sidewalk installations were closely tracked by one particular employee at the District. He would meet with developers, consult with Transportation and work to ensure that adequate sidewalks were constructed that would protect children walking to and from school and bus stops.

Those days are behind us. The current model at the District is to hire friends and family into such positions - without regard for qualifications or experience.

Dangerous streets_Woman hurt & children in danger!
I was horrified when a neighbor told me a woman had been hit by a car when I was walking with my kids to their bus stop. The powers thay be need to slow down the traffic coming off hwy 99 and enforce it if they can not install sidewalks. Adults need to be very aware of themselves, the surrounding traffic, and keep a close eye on the children near roadways, if this was just 30 minutes later there would have been about 30 young children there and only 4 parents. How long before this happens again? This time to a child. Because of this accident a family is dealing with a horrible injury and the possible loss of a loved one, young children going to school were exposed to something horrible and scary, and people could not leave their parking areas to get where they needed to be for over an hour. My prayers will be for the people involved in the accident tonight. I hope the road will be made safer for all of us finally and maybe parents will notice the inherent danger of the wait for a school bus on these streets.

Terribly unsafe block, could have been prevented.
This happened right outside my complex about five minutes before I left to catch my bus.

Honestly, it was only a matter of time until something like this happened. At the exact point where this happened (3200 block) there is no sidewalk on either side of 148th st. West of this point there is a sidewalk on the north side of 148th and a terribly unsafe dirt path on the south side of 148th, and east of here there is a sidewalk on the south side of 148th and only a narrow shoulder on the north side of 148th.

Someone should really send a traffic safety investigator out to look at this disaster. For having such a heavy amount of foot traffic it is asinine that there is no continuity, at least on one side of the street, with the sidewalks.
