Silvertips finish road trip with 3-2 win Broncos

SWIFT CURRENT, Saskatoon -- Despite being outshot 28-19, the Everett Silvertips got out of Swift Current Friday night with a 3-2 victory over the Broncos.

The Tips killed all five penalties against the Broncos, bringing their total to 31 of 32 killed during the Eastern Conference swing. Everett finish its road trip 3-1-2, earning eight out of a possible 12 points with wins against Swift Current, Regina and Brandon.

In his second straight start for the Tips (11-8-3-0), goalie Kent Simpson earned the victory with 26 saves, bringing his record to 6-3-1 on the year. Zack Dailey recorded points with a goal and an assist.

Kyle Beach scored his sixth goal of the year at 10:00 of the third period to give the Tips a 3-1 lead. Beach hit the back of the net after getting the bounce off Swift Current goaltender Travis Yonkman's pads.

Three minutes later Justin Dowling scored his second goal of the night, beating Simpson and bringing Swift Current to within one goal. Even after pulling their goalie for an extra man, the Broncos were unable to solve Simpson for the tying goal.

Dailey broke a 1-1 tie at 4:52 of the third period, putting home a one-timer after a pass from Jordan Mistelbacher.

The second period was all Swift Current, with Dowling beating Simpson for his eighth goal of the year at 10:48. The Broncos outshot Everett 12-2 in the second period and only some strong goaltending by Simpson kept the scored knotted at 1-1.

Everett got on the scoreboard first when Byron Froese put home a shorthanded goal at 18:59, deflecting a Dailey backhand past Yonkman to give Everett the 1-0 lead.

The Silvertips are now 5-3-2-0 in their last 10 games, and return to Everett for their next game, against the Portland Winter Hawks at 7:05 p.m. on Wednesday.
