Reader poll of the week

Posted at 8:29 am by Nick Patterson

This week I want to do a little "what if" thinking. With the departure of Matt Ius and the trade of Jeff Regier, there are currently just 10 players remaining on Everett's roster who were full-time members of the team last season. That means 14 are gone. Some are graduated overagers, some joined NHL organizations, some weren't invited back. But several left of their own volition.

So let's consider the players who left by their own choice. These are players who could have returned and been contributors on this season's team, but for whatever reason decided they were better off elsewhere. Everett's been about a .500 team so far this season. With any or all of those players that winning percentage may be different. And I'm sure that most fans have a particular player they wish was still with the team.

So I want to know who you'd want back. Feel free to explain your choice in the comments section, and I'll be happy to give my own take on your analysis.

Easy Answer
I know this is the "cop-out" answer, but I don't want anyone on this team that isn't 100% committed to being here. You shouldn't have to talk someone into playing for your team. If you do, you set yourself up for disaster. Harty is someone everyone knows and loves but, let's face it, last year we all thought this team underachieved at times and showed a lack of heart in some spots. Not saying Harty himself ever had that problem, but he was the team captain and it happened under his watch. Now he leaves to team this year when they, seemingly, need him most.

makes me wonder.

Karamnov gets my vote
I voted for karamnov i think he had the most potential coming into this season. He developed very nicely last year. I do miss Harty, (how can you not). But I agree that we probably would not have carried 3 overage D-men.

The player that I miss most all time would have to be Brennan Sonne. I would love to see him and Garrett Hunt square off one more time.

Quite Surprising that the Tips are not really feeling the effects of 'missing' any of those players. Evidence I believe; that shows what a great job our coaching staff has done thus far this season. Go Tips.

Nick's observations
The early returns on this poll are interesting. I can't say I'm surprised Harty is the runaway leader. He was, after all, the team's captain and a real heart-and-soul type of player. However, one could also argue he was the easiest to replace. Conventional wisdom says that if Harty was here, fellow overage defenseman Graham Potuer wouldn't be (there's no way the Tips would have kept three overage D-men, and Taylor Ellington wasn't going anywhere), and I think Potuer has played well.

Anyone who voted for Harty care to comment?
