Free expo to promote ‘clean and green living’

The public has been invited to learn about natural health and wellness during the Third Annual ALIVE! Expo Nov. 8 and 9 at the event’s new venue in the Lynnwood Convention Center.
This year’s “clean and green living” fair will feature informative lectures from prominent health industry experts, fitness, yoga and cooking demonstrations and classes, complimentary message and reiki treatments, as well as hundreds of professionals representing nutrition and environmentally green companies that will be on hand to offer information and products.
Event President and CEO Patrycja Siewert-Towns stressed the vital role diet plays in our health and lives. While not everyone can afford to eat organic foods, she said it is important people learn to make healthy choices about what they eat.
“We want to get them away from fast food and back in their kitchens,” said Siewert-Towns. “Things were much simpler if you look back to your grandparents’ generation. People made time for their family, they always ate in, they grew most of their vegetables or bought them at the farmers market, and we didn’t have so much cancer and health problems as we have today.”
The troubled national economy was foremost in bringing about big changes to this year’s event, which is expected to draw over 5,000 residents from throughout the Northwest.
“Because of the economy, because there is such a huge financial pinch on everyone right now, I made the decision to eliminate this year’s admission fee,” she said. “It was a big financial decision, but I think it was the right one.”
“I call it the ALIVE! Expo Economic Stimulus,” she added with a laugh.
The event has been held for the past five years, with the last two being organized at the Seattle Center. Siewert-Towns said people unfamiliar with the area complained the city’s one-way streets and ongoing construction made the center too difficult to find.
“The Lynnwood center may not be the favorite event space when it comes to our vendors, but it’s going to become a favorite with consumers because of how easy it is to find and get in and out of,” she said. “It’s only 12 miles north of Seattle, so it will cost people less to drive to Lynnwood from Seattle than it does just to park in Seattle.”
Throughout both days of the event, a growing panel of experts will speak with attendees about a variety of health topics, including organics, diet, environmental, fitness, supplements and vitamins, herbs and inner peace. Keynote speaker Kat James will share the story of how she transformed her body following a 12-year eating disorder, skin-disfiguring liver disease and other issues that nearly ended her life. James lost 10 dress sizes thanks to the principles, strategies and resources that took her years to accumulate and learn.
Today, she educates people around the world about the “boot camp” myths of health and beauty in her teachings and as a living example. James’ programs have been featured in a variety of well-known magazines and on television, as well as in her best-selling book, “The Truth about Beauty.”
Among other guests speaking at the ALIVE! Expo will be Dr. Gez Agolli, ND, PHD, founder of Progressive Medical Centers in Atlanta. A board-certified Naturopath, Dr. Agolli is an expert in the areas of digestive disorders, natural hormone replacement, naturopathic detoxification, herbal therapies, tissue mineral analysis, functional medicine, homeopathy, sports nutrition, metabolic medicine, physical fitness, acupressure and electro medical technology.
Dr. Karriem Ali, a graduate of Harvard University and Stanford University, has toured and taught in over 32 countries in rainforest, village, savannah, city and island environments, bringing with him a shaman-like understanding of health in peoples’ minds, bodies and lives. Additional speakers will be announced on the event’s Web site as they are added.
New additions to this year’s event includes an open casting call for a health and wellness TV pilot “Celebrity Workout” with Devon Kidd, a celebrity fitness expert. Women and men who would like to get into better shape, as well as professional fitness trainers willing to share tips on their healthy lifestyle, are encouraged to participate in auditions held 10 am. to 6 p.m. during both days of the event.
This year’s expo will have something for everyone, said Siewert-Towns, whether visitors want to learn about their own health or the health of the environment they live in.
“Whether it’s supplementing your health with vitamins, body care, recycling, going green or the environment, it’s all about giving people information so they can be armed to make better choices for themselves,” she said.
The Lynnwood Convention center is located at located at 3711 196th Street NW. For more event information, including audition applications and details, visit www.AliveExpo.com.
