Harris

Don and Bonnie Harris of Monroe will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary with an open house for family and friends from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday Oct. 19 at the Best Western in Monroe.

The couple were married Oct. 17, 1948, in Lewiston, Idaho.

Don had lived in Craigmont, Idaho. Bonnie in Bellevue. They had never met.

It was a former boyfriend of Bonnie's who gave Don her address. The two guys were in the Army together at Fort Lewis, Texas.

Don and Bonnie wrote to each other for two years while he was stationed at Fort Lewis and then when he went to Korea.

After Don left the service Bonnie traveled to Idaho to meet him. He asked her to marry him six weeks later.

The couple lived in Craigmont until 1957 then moved with their family to Bellevue. In 1967 they moved to Monroe.

Don and Bonnie have three children, nine grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Two great-grandchildren are deceased.
