The cougar was seen just before 1 p.m. near the park area 66th Avenue W., Lynnwood Police Department spokeswoman Shannon Sessions said. Another report from the same area came later in the day. The 27-acre park is adjacent to Meadowdale Elementary and Middle schools and just west of Meadowdale Senior High School. Lynnwood Police Animal Control checked the area but couldn’t find the animal, Sessions said. According to wildlife experts, the sighting is not cause for alarm. But people should take precautions, Sessions said. State Department of Fish and Wildlife officials say people should never approach a cougar or attempt to feed it. In the unlikely case of a face-to-face encounter with a cougar, people should stop, pick up small children and face the animal. They should never run or take their eyes off the animal.
