Be prepared is GOP motto

Posted at 12:01 am by Jerry Cornfield

The state Republican Party is gathering data that might be useful if it ends up in court following the election.

In recent days, the party filed requests for public records with election officers in each of the state's 39 counties. It is seeking copies of all documents provided to Democratic Party organizations - county, state or national - as well as to Gov. Chris Gregoire’s campaign.

The Republican Party also wants everything given to ACORN, the ACLU, Brennan Center for Justice and other organizations that it considers friendly to Democratic candidates.

“We just want to know what these various and sundry liberal organizations are up to,” said party chairman Luke Esser. “We don’t want any surprises this time around. It is all part of our efforts to try to make sure we don’t have any of the problems that emerged in 2004.”

Snohomish County Auditor Carolyn Weikel told me she’s received three similarly structured requests from the party. She’s been told to expect more right up through the election.

She said the state Democratic Party has not followed suit. “But I expect we’ll see that shortly,” she said.
