Boeing and the union called off talks despite having at least 8 hours remaining before the extended contract would expire.

The union's Tom Wroblewski said Boeing failed to meet the members' demands.

Machinists will strike at 12:01 a.m. Saturday.

We want to hear what readers think of the strike. Post your comments below or send me an e-mail. Please let me know if you want the contents of your email shared with readers.

Boeing vs IAM
Not including Labor Day Holiday in the last year of the contract.

Boeing does not want to extend the contract to cover the Labor Day Holiday but in their St Louis Contract they extended our contract to cover
Memorial Day Monday 31 May 2010

plus we have Martin Luther King, Jr. Day every year.

IAM 751 just wants Boeing to be fair!

strike
As an US Navy Veteran well trained by Uncle Sam + College educated under the GI Bill over 35 years working with military aircraft, going thru constant training just like very many IAM members with similar backgrounds. We are not a bunch of greedy union slackers but very good at what we do. This is why they pay us what they do and to keep the highly trained work force they will have to agree to some understanding with the IAM. So "ceeparks" & others who just know the here-say & media sound-bites and have no hands on info you are talking out your a**. Juat ask the lower non-union Boeing workers....they know what the union gets helps their cause. And as far as outsiders comming in to do scab work....they can not even come near the standards of a well trained IAM member!

COLA
Now the 40 cent COLA: in past contracts the last COLA amount was folded in the next contract. But Boeing does not want to fold in the 40 cents a hour because in past years it was only 10-12 cents. Here is the ST Louis Contract:

Section 8
16 A. Affected Employee:
17 Affected Employee, as used in this wage section, during the initial
18 year of the contract means an employee in the Bargaining Unit
19 and in Active Service (i.e., not on layoff or on leave of absence) on
20 21 May 2007 and has not terminated employment nor retired prior
21 to the date agreement is reached. In all subsequent years of the
22 contract, Affected Employee, as used in this wage section, means
23 an employee in the Bargaining Unit and in Active Service on the
24 effective date and the day prior to an effective date of a change.
25 Employees who are on leave of absence on an effective date will
26 have wage changes applied if and when they return to work.
27 B. Cost of Living Fold-In:
28 Each employee’s COLA in effect on May 20, 2007, plus an
29 additional $0.14/hr COLA Traveler will be folded into (made part
30 of) each affected employee’s pure base rate on May 25, 2007 after
31 the application of a 4% GWI on May 25, 2007.
32
33 C. First Year Wage Structure Adjustments:
34 Rate range maximums will be increased by the $0.80 COLA plus
35 the $0.14 COLA Traveler amount in effect on 20 May 2007, as set
36 forth in Schedule “A” and a 4% GWI effective May 25, 2007.

We have job Security from Boeing in our St Louis Contract!
