Money sought for new senior center

The Mill Creek Senior Foundation is scheduled to give a presentation to the Mill Creek City Council asking for financial assistance for building a senior center in Mill Creek.

The City Council meeting is 5:30 p.m. Sept. 9, 15728 Main Street, Mill Creek.

Group pushing for theater venue

The Marysville Community Playhouse Association has scheduled a meeting on fundraising for a performing arts venue in the city.

The meeting is at 7 p.m. Sept. 24 at the Marysville Library, 6120 Grove St.

The group also is seeking board members.

Fundraiser for Special Olympics

The Monroe Police Department is teaming up with Thrive Community Fitness to participate in the Cycling for Special Olympics fundraiser from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday at 118 N. Lewis St., Suite 104, Monroe.

The police department has long supported Special Olympics, which is mainly for athletes with disabilities.

Volunteers needed for friendship walk

Village Community Services is looking for volunteers for the upcoming Friendship Walk on Sept. 21.

Volunteers help with planning, setup, registration, safety and manning stations along the walk route.

The Friendship Walk celebrates the inclusion of people with disabilities in community life. Proceeds benefit Village Community Services.

Tips for parents of kindergartners

The Department of Early Learning has kindergarten-readiness tips for parents at www.del.wa.gov/ development/ kindergarten. The Web site has suggestions for classroom visits, information on preparing kids for school and links to health, nutrition and child development information.
