Already looking forward to February

The Farmers Almanac is predicting that this winter will be less damp than normal. At least we'll have February to look forward to while getting drenched on Labor Day.

But that doesn't mean there's no hope for August. The almanac also lists the best days of each month to accomplish various tasks. According to the almanac's Web site, there are still good days left this month to dig holes, demolish something or start a diet, which may prove useful if you've been judging food contests at the fair.

But if you're looking for the ideal day to potty-train your child or castrate a farm animal, you'll have to wait until September.

An Italian priest is planning an online beauty contest for nuns. "We're not going to parade nuns in bathing suits," he said. But he hopes to point out that "being ugly is not a requirement for becoming a nun."

Still, if this goes anything like the Miss America pageant, Miss Sister California is practically guaranteed to be one of the favorites, while Miss Sister Washington won't crack the top 40.
