For sale: Computer company for just $50,000

Posted at 2:58 pm by Eric Fetters

As you might guess, you're not going to get Dell for just $50,000 (That company's worth more like $50 billion). Nope, the company up for sale is Open Tech, which recently announced plans to introduce an Apple clone.

The problem is that introducing such a computer is sure to invoke the considerable wrath of Apple, which doesn't look humorously at other companies offering Mac-compatible computers. To wit: Apple filed suit in July against Psystar, a Florida company that made a splash earlier this year when it began selling Mac-clone computers. So far, it's not going well for Psystar, although the same company once one a suit against Apple. Even though only small fish like Psystar have taken on Apple's exclusivity over computers running its operating system so far, be sure the big guys are watching how this case turns out.

Anyway, back to Open Tech and its sale. Fifty grand isn't much at all for a company, but there are lots of questions about what exactly you'll get for that price.
