Bergeson had 41 percent of the vote to Dorn’s 30 percent after the first batch of primary ballots was tallied Tuesday night, according to the Secretary of State’s Office. Among Snohomish County voters, the race was tighter with Bergeson leading Dorn 25,234 votes -- or 37 percent -- to 22,412, which is 33 percent of the vote. Dorn is a former legislator who has the backing of the Washington teachers union. Bergeson has held the office of state superintendent of public instruction for 12 years. As expected, four lesser known candidates are trailing and probably won’t advance to the general election. They are David Blomstrom, John Blair, Enid Duncan and Don Hansler. Though some elections watchers predicted Bergeson would win her seat outright in the primary, it doesn’t look as though she’ll receive the majority of votes needed to avoid a challenge in the general election.
