ACCOUNTING
Paul Deguchi has merged his certified public accounting practice
of Paul Deguchi & Associates PS with the firm of Dewar Meeks + Ekrem PC,
in Edmonds. Donette (Halenz) Conrad has joined the firm as a senior
accountant, and Joan Knox and Joyce Squier have joined the
firm as para-professionals.
BIOTECH
Dr. Paul Weiden has joined Sonus Pharmaceuticals of Bothell as
director of clinical oncology. In this job, he will lead the clinical
development of the company’s cancer products. He is a professor of oncology
at the University of Washington School of Medicine and former medical
director at Dendreon Corp.
Dr. Gordon Brandt
has joined Nastech Pharmaceutical Co. of Bothell as its executive
vice president of science and clinical development. He previously was
with Sonus Pharmaceuticals of Bothell, most recently as its vice president
of clinical and regulatory affairs.
CONSTRUCTION
HCI Steel Building Systems Inc. of Arlington has appointed Lee Elvgren
to be its sales representative for northern California, northern Nevada,
Utah and southern Idaho.
EDUCATION
Susan Kostick, Edmonds Community College’s vice president of college
relations and advancement, was named Communicator of the Year by the National
Council of Marketing and Public Relations at its recent District VII conference.
ENERGY
Jim Langus, Everett’s top non-elected manager for the past 18 years,
has stepped down from that post to join the Snohomish County Public Utility
District in a similar role. The new position, created as part of a reorganization
of the PUD, includes providing management oversight, support and direction
to the utility’s top managers. Langus also will be responsible for making
sure board policies are followed, and for developing plans for the general
manager on issues in need of immediate attention. The PUD is familiar
territory for Langus, who served as a PUD commissioner during the early
1980s.
Calvin Shirley
of Everett is joining Puget Sound Energy as director of conservation services.
He previously was senior manager of energy services for the Snohomish
County Public Utility District.
ENGINEERING
Sparling recently added Sandy Peron to its marketing department
as a marketing communications specialist. Peron’s responsibilities include
the production of qualification packages and marketing collateral, and
coordination of client presentations for the firm.
Erik Pierson
is the new information systems manager for CDi Engineers of Lynnwood.
Pierson will be involved in needs assessments, research, and selection
of network and workstation hardware and software, as well as recommendations
for new technology throughout CDi’s operations. Kim Bun recently
joined CDi’s CAD department. Bun brings more than 20 years of drafting
experience in mechanical, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, piping, fire protection
and circuiting systems to her position as CAD technician.
ENVIRONMENTAL
WebPE, an Edmonds-based environmental software firm, has appointed Phil
Herres its chief executive officer. With the addition of Herres, Fred
Illich, WebPE co-founder, will assume the duties of president and
will represent the company to the professional environmental engineering
market served by WebPE.
FINANCIAL
Judy Hassing has joined Whidbey Island Bank’s Snohomish County
lending team as a commercial lending officer. A 27-year banking veteran,
Hassing will be responsible for commercial loan portfolio development.
Sonja Butler has
been promoted to vice president and manager of Frontier Bank’s Stanwood
office. With 25 years of banking experience, Butler has a business management
degree and is a graduate of the Northwest Intermediate Banking School.
Bruce Farnham
and Bob Miller have been promoted to senior vice presidents
of business banking at Cascade Bank.
HEALTH CARE
Jean Hammel, Rita Szantay and Sandy Whitcutt have joined
Community Health Center of Snohomish County as behavioral health specialists.
LAW
Rebecca Torgerson has joined Brewe Layman Attorneys at Law in Everett
as an associate attorney. A 1999 graduate of the University of Washington,
Torgerson received her law degree from Seattle University School of Law
last year. A member of the Snohomish County and Washington bar associations,
Torgerson’s practice will emphasize family law matters.
MANUFACTURING
Leonard Taylor was named third-quarter leader at Meridian Yachts.
Taylor, Russell Marks and Nancy Molstad each was named a
monthly leader during the period.
MEDIA
Llynda Peters of Edmonds has joined KUOW’s underwriting department
as an account representative. Prior to working for the public radio station
in Seattle, Peters was with Moss Adams LLP’s Not-For-Profit Services Group
in Everett.
NONPROFITS
Colleen Temple has joined the YMCA of Snohomish County as director
of marketing and communications. She previously was community relations
director for HealthForce Partners. Quinten Allen has joined the
YMCA as the aquatics director for the Everett branch. He is a former Mountain
West Conference swimming champion from the University of Nevada-Las Vegas.
He previously was a lifeguard and swim coach in Boise, Idaho.
REAL ESTATE
Mike Kerwin, associate broker, has joined Keller Williams Realty
of Everett in its commercial real estate division and will serve all phases
of commercial sales and leasing. Kerwin has more than 25 years of real
estate experience, having spent the past five years in commercial real
estate with Windermere Commercial in Snohomish County.
Windermere Real Estate
has added four sales associates to offices around Snohomish County, including
Denise McDonald, who joined the Stanwood office; Susan Lee
and Bonnie Jo Yuse, who joined the Lynnwood office; and Dwight
Tizzard, who joined the Mill Creek office.
RETAIL
Jerry Alder has been named general manager at Alderwood Mall. Alder
previously was manager of the Tacoma Mall, where he supervised a major
renovation. Alderwood also is going through a major expansion. Alder replaces
Barry O’Connor, who has been promoted to group vice president for
General Growth Properties Inc., which owns Alderwood.
VETERINARY
Veterinarian Dr. Adam Reiss has earned board certification from
the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care. He is
one of the veterinarians practicing at Animal Emergency and Referral Center,
a 24-hour emergency veterinary hospital at 19511 24th Ave. W. in Lynnwood.
