The Snohomish County
Workforce Development Council recently was awarded more than $320,000
in job-search assistance and support-services grants for laid-off Boeing
employees, according to a news release issued by the council.
The grants, authorized
by Congress and distributed by the U.S. Department of Labor, are the
first important step in addressing the needs of workers dislocated by
the recent economic downturn in our aerospace industry, said Deborah
Knutson, President of the Snohomish County Economic Development Council.
The Workforce Development
Council is distributing the grant revenue to four WorkSource Snohomish
County partner agencies Washington State Employment Security Department,
Edmonds Community College, Sunrise Services/Community Trades and Careers,
and Operation Improvement/ YWCA that will provide career transition
services at the Boeing Career Transition Center at Paine Field.
