Seattle Business
Forum luncheon — April 5
Alan Mulally, executive vice president of the Boeing Co. and president
and chief executive of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, will be the keynote
speaker during Western Washington University’s eighth annual Seattle Business
Forum luncheon April 5 in the Grand Ballroom at the Westin Hotel, 1900
Fifth Ave. Doors will open for the luncheon event at 11:30 a.m. Lunch
is served at noon, with Mulally’s keynote address at 12:45 p.m. Individual
tickets for the luncheon are $100 per person. Two levels of table sponsorship
also are available for $1,000 and $2,500. The $2,500 scholarship level
includes an 11 a.m. private reception with Mulally and WWU President Karen
W. Morse as well as the establishment of a named scholarship at Western

Business workshops
for artists
— April 5, 28 and 29
As part of an initiative to connect local artists to creative development
and entrepreneurship opportunities, Edmonds Community College is offering
the following workshops this spring:
- Copyright for
Photographers and Artists — Attendees will learn the nuts and bolts
of copyright law including how to protect their work and protect themselves
from claims. The class, to be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. April 5 at
the Edmonds Conference Center, 201 Fourth Ave. N., Edmonds, will be
taught by Washington Lawyers for the Arts. Cost is $19. Call 425-640-1243

- Arts Business
Institute Workshop — Faculty from this nonprofit organization, which
seeks to increase profitability of craft arts, provide information on
business of art for artists, gallery owners and art-related industries.
Attendees will learn about promotion, pricing, working with galleries,
booth design and wholesale and retail markets. The workshop will be
held on April 28 and 29 at the Edmonds Conference Center. The cost is

Direct-marketing
conference — April 6
The Seattle chapter of the Direct Marketing Association will hold DMA
World 2005 — Relevance and Results: The New Revolution in Direct Marketing
from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 6 at the Washington Athletic Club, 1325
Sixth Ave., in Seattle. Industry leaders from Expedia.com, Jupiter Media
and others will explore the business-to-business and business-to-consumer

at EdCC

Edmonds Community College is holding events aimed at preparing people
to get jobs culminating in the annual career fair, which will take place
from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 28. All events take place on the college
campus, 20000 68th Ave. W., Lynnwood, and are free and open to the public.
Along with the career fair, EdCC is holding:
- Get Hired Day
from 9:45 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 12 in the Triton Union Building, 202,
where attendees can get tips from experts about how to get an interview,
find a great career and get the job. Topics include “Understanding the
Job Description: Promises and Pitfalls” from 9:45 to 11 a.m., “Realizing
Your Career Vision: Getting Where You Want in Any Field” from 11:15
a.m. to 12:15 p.m., “Learn Insider Tips from the Pros on How to Get
the Job” from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. and “Reality Interviewing” from 1:45
to 3 p.m.
- Resume Critique
from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. April 14 or 21 in the Snohomish Hall Lobby.

Higher-education
update luncheon
— April 13
Warren Buck, chancellor of the University of Washington, Bothell, will
brief the South Snohomish County Chamber at a business update luncheon
from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 13 at Embassy Suites — Lynnwood. Buck
will discuss the current state of higher education and work-force development,
how Washington state compares with other states and how these factors
impact the state’s ability to compete globally. Cost of the luncheon is
$32 per person, discounted to $27 for chamber members with reservations

‘About Town’ spring
tour — April 15
Sunny Kobe Cook of will be the keynote speaker at the Northwest Women’s
Business Center’s “About Town” spring tour April 15. The day, which starts
out at 9 a.m. at the Edmonds Floral Conference Center, will include a
tour of the Pacific Culinary Studio for the Home Chef in Everett, Riposante
Esthetics Skin Care Spa in Shoreline, Wight’s Home & Garden Shop in Lynnwood,
and The Savvy Traveler, Arista Wine Cellar and Sound Styles Boutique in
Edmonds. The day finishes with a buffet tea, from 3 to 4:30 p.m., with
food catered by Your Table is Ready Catering Co. Inc. Cost to attend the
event is $35 for members and $45 for nonmembers. For more information

Luncheon to benefit
Seton House
— April 20
The second annual “Helping Hearts for Seton House” luncheon will be held
April 20 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton parish, 2316 180th St. SE, in Bothell
to raise funds to help operate the housing facility for single mothers
and their babies. Last year’s luncheon program raised $20,000, with 120
people attending. This year, as many as 200 are expected to attend. There
will be tours of Seton House at 11:30 a.m., preceding the luncheon. Susan
Camerer of Vision House, a Renton transition home for mothers and their
children, will be the guest speaker. For information or reservations,

will be asked to make a contribution to Seton House.
Habitat for Humanity
auction — April 23
The Snohomish County chapter of Habitat for Humanity will hold its sixth
annual benefit auction from 5 to 10 p.m. April 23 at the Everett Events
Center in downtown Everett. Along with the auction, which will include
items such as sightseeing trips, artwork, and restaurant and lodging certificates,
will be dinner and musical entertainment. For more information or to make

Medic One Foundation
auction — May 6
The Medic One Foundation, which works to provide emergency medical equipment
for paramedics and firefighters throughout King and south Snohomish counties,
will hold its sixth annual Lifesaver Luncheon & Silent Auction from 11
a.m. to 1:30 p.m. May 6 at the Washington State Convention & Trade Center.

WDC business conference
— May 12
Noted business management “guru,” author and theorist Tom Peters will
visit Snohomish County on May 12, presenting strategies from his new book,
“Re-Imagine! Business Excellence in a Disruptive Age,” at the newly opened
Lynnwood Convention Center. Hundreds of Puget Sound business and community
leaders are expected to attend the event, which will begin with breakfast
at 7 a.m., followed by presentations from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sponsored
by the Snohomish County Workforce Development Council, the program will
include Washington Gov. Christine Gregoire; Mark Emmert, University of
Washington president; Kristina Erickson, program manager of the Washington
State Film and Video Office; Tom Miller, president of Intermec Technologies
Corp.; and other industry representatives from the state’s innovative
business sectors. Associations and businesses providing partnering or
sponsorship support for the event will receive tickets to an invitation-only
reception following the morning program, offering a unique opportunity

Technology Alliance
luncheon — May 26
The Technology Alliance will hold its annual State of Technology Luncheon
from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. May 26 at the Westin Hotel in Seattle. The event
will feature a keynote address by Eric Schmidt, chief executive officer
of Google Inc. The alliance also will announce the findings of its latest
study benchmarking Washington’s performance against that of its peer states
in education, research and entrepreneurship, and the Alliance of Angels,
an alliance program, will announce the winner of its 2005 Startup of the
Year Award. Individual tickets are $95 and will be available starting
